Spine Apple Watch Accessories Review

How useful are these Spigen Apple Watch Cases?

The Spigen Slim Armor, Liquid Crystal, Thin Fit and Tough Armor are accessories for your Apple Watch and for the most part, they’re quite underwhelming. The Slim Armor and Liquid Crystal are basically TPU sleeves for the Apple Watch, the Tough Armor is a TPU sleeve with a Polycarbonate face and the Thin Fit is a piece of plastic that snaps to the front of your Apple Watch.

The Thin Fit is really the only Spigen Apple watch product that we would use on a regular basis. The Tough Armor is nice if you’re trying to change the look of your Apple Watch slightly but we would stay away from the Slim Armor and Liquid Crystal as we feel that they don’t provide much value to your Apple Watch. Every one of these products has a fatal flaw to them which we’ll elaborate below. In addition to the flaws, every case that we’ve reviewed (other than the Thin Fit) is a tough, sweaty mess to clean up as any sort of perspiration gets between the Apple Watch and the case. Just a heads up for all the “clean freaks” out there!

Spigen Slim Armor for the Apple Watch

Spine Apple Watch Accessories Review - Slim Armor Review

The Slim Armor gets a score of 2.5 Eh’s out of 5. It is a TPU sleeve that wraps around your Apple Watch and has a piece that covers. It doesn’t fit terribly well as its not very rigid and makes your $500 dollar Apple watch look like a 3 dollar reward you fish out of a game you pay 5 dollars to play at a carnival.

Spigen says that it has a metallic look to it and if you squint at it from a far distance, it might look metallic but then you look up close, you’ll notice it looks like a reject from their TPU machine. The only upside to this product is that it comes with two screen protectors but the screen protectors don’t quite fit the Apple Watch’s screen.

Generally, in terms of protection, the Slim Armor does a better job of protecting your device than the Thin Fit and Liquid Crystal due to the inclusion of the screen protectors. The screen protector generally maintains the clarity of the Apple Watch’s screen which is something we can’t say about the Spigen Tough Armor for the Apple Watch.

Liquid Crystal for the Apple Watch

Spine Apple Watch Accessories Review - Liquid Crystal Review

Onto the Liquid Crystal which which received a wonderful score of 1.8 Eh’s out of 5. It’s much thinner than the Slim Armor but is equally as useless. Its quite flexible and on the Apple Watch, it looks like you tried to protect your Apple Watch with plastic wrap.

The flexibility of the Liquid Crystal is problematic to us as dust and debris will collect between the watch and the case which may result in damage to the Apple Watch. The only benefit of the Liquid Crystal in terms of protection is that the edge of the case extends slightly past the Apple watch’s touchscreen so it will protect the Apple watch from the occasional scrape against a wall.

Thin Fit for the Apple Watch

Spine Apple Watch Accessories Review - Slim Fit Review

The most useful of these products is the Thin Fit which scores at 3.8 Eh’s out of 5. Its the only product between these 4 that just snaps on the front of the case which means that cleaning your Apple Watch is simple but there is a chance that you will lose this case as it just pops off incredibly easily. Simple things such as putting your hand in a pocket will increase the chance of you losing this accessory. It’s the only Spigen Apple Watch accessory that we feel maintains the design of the Apple watch, especially compared to the cheap look of the Slim Armor and the plastic wrap look of the liquid crystal.

In terms of protection, it will provide decent screen protection (if it stays on the Apple Watch). The edges are high enough that from the occasional glancing blow will not result in the screen being damaged.

In our opinion, this is the most practical Apple watch accessories that Spigen has made but again, it comes off so very easily.

Tough Armor for the Apple Watch

Spine Apple Watch Accessories Review - Tough Armor Review

Last but not least is the Spigen Tough Armor which is something you should consider if you want to make your Apple watch look a little different. It has a polycarbonate face that snaps onto a TPU sleeve. The two pieces generally stick together but it will come off if you’re not careful. Aaron was on the track when he saw the front of his tough armor lying on the ground in front of him (apparently he struck his Apple watch hard enough to cause the face to fall off).

If the case stays together, this Spigen Apple Watch accessory offers the most protection out of the 4 as it covers the entire Apple Watch. We do have to note that the screen protector reduces the quality of the screen in direct sun light.

I already had a glass screen protector on my Apple Watch prior to getting the Tough Armor. The first thing I did was remove the built-in protector on the snap-on face (very easy to do). The result is the face snaps on very securely and doesn’t interfere with the glass protector.

Glad I read your review (post install) that pointed out the potential issue. Kind of had an inkling it might be anyway, so the confirmation was reassuring.

    Love your reviews. Thank you!!

Hi I had my tough armor for a month. Then one day I was taking of my jacket off and the top part fell off. I didn’t even know it fell off. So I think it’s a waste of money.
I am getting the catalyst case because it’s water proof and I know it well not fall off.
