Rhinoshield 3D Impact SP Pro Review – Unique Feel, Big Trade-offs

There’s one thing we absolutely love about the Rhinoshield 3D Impact SP Pro—it feels fantastic under your fingers. But the real question is: does that silky feel justify everything else this protector brings (or doesn’t bring) to the table? Ranked #9 overall, the Rhinoshield 3D Impact SP Pro lands just above average. It’s got a premium install experience and solid impact protection, but there are some definite trade-offs—especially in scratch resistance. Let’s break it down.

Design

Design-wise, the Rhinoshield 3D Impact SP Pro ranks #5. Out of the 20+ protectors we’ve tested recently, it’s the only one made from PET film—not glass. It covers 93.31% of the iPhone’s front face (average is 93.07%), has covered cutouts, and semi-flat edges. Rhinoshield used to be pretty barebones when it came to installation tools, but that’s changed here. With this model, you get a premium install frame, a squeegee, dust stickers, and even mini dust stickers. And in our notoriously dusty test space, the install still went completely clean. That’s impressive.

Performance

We went into testing expecting the Rhinoshield 3D Impact SP Pro to underperform, especially because it’s PET, but it actually held its own. It ranks #8 for performance. Optical clarity was low at 0.88 (average is 0.9), which isn’t surprising for PET film. Glare increased by 8.59%, higher than the average of 5.64%—so it doesn’t do much to reduce reflections either.

But here’s the big surprise: the oleophobic coating. Oil droplets took just 40.87 seconds to travel 6cm down the screen—faster than the 44-second average. More impressively, the trail left behind was minimal, putting this coating among the best we’ve tested. That’s rare for PET film. If you’re constantly touching your screen, this coating makes a big difference.

Protection

Now here’s where the Rhinoshield 3D Impact SP Pro gets tricky. It ranks #12 for protection, largely because it’s made of plastic and scratches extremely easily—just 3H on the Mohs scale, compared to the 6.5 average. That alone is a huge drawback. But when it comes to impact, this protector shines. We had to layer it over the cheapest glass screen protector we could find just to test it, and it still took 113N to break through and 313N to puncture it—well above the 271.44N average. PET films tend to be durable in high-impact scenarios but are super vulnerable to surface scratches. It’s a big compromise.

Value

The Rhinoshield 3D Impact SP Pro costs $35.99 and comes in a pack of one. That’s not cheap, especially for a non-glass screen protector, but you’re getting a product with some very specific advantages. It’s highly reusable—perfect if you frequently take your iPhone in and out of a waterproof case—and offers excellent protection against drops. The downside is you’ll need to live with visible scratches and the occasional bubble if you get a bad corner hit.

Verdict

The Rhinoshield 3D Impact SP Pro is one of the most unique protectors we’ve tested. It feels great, installs cleanly, and protects against heavy drops better than most. But it scratches like crazy and doesn’t do much to reduce glare. If you’re a clumsy user who values feel and durability over pristine visual clarity, this protector might be worth it. For most others? Glass might still be the better bet.
