Torras Diamond Shield Review – Great Design, Underwhelming Protection

The Torras Diamond Shield screen protector has racked up thousands of positive reviews on Amazon—but how does it really perform under our more aggressive testing? It landed at #11 out of 20+ screen protectors, and while it’s great from a design perspective, its performance and protection didn’t quite meet expectations. Let’s break down why this highly marketed protector isn’t as “unbreakable” as advertised.

ProsCons
Strong edge durability (91.7N)High glare increase (+13.95%)
Above-average clarity (0.91)Poor direct impact resistance (252.6N)
Premium double tempered glassMarketing overhype (Aerospace-grade?)
Great packaging and accessoriesInstall frame can cause center bubbles
Affordable 2-pack ($13 each)Overall performance ranked low (#14)

Design

Design is where the Torras Diamond Shield shines, ranking #6 in our tests. It’s made from verified double tempered glass, confirmed by its long cracking pattern during impact testing. It measures 9mm thick and covers 93.72% of the iPhone’s front face—well above the 93.07% average. It has covered cutouts and semi-flat edges, which strike a decent balance between usability and strength.

The included kit is thoughtful: dust stickers, squeegee, lens wipes, a clever hidden scraper, and two sets of install tools. Only one install frame is included, but it worked well enough to keep our install dust-free—even in a messy basement. However, the frame does have one frustrating flaw: it tends to create large bubbles in the center, which are the hardest to remove.

Performance

Performance is where things start to fall short. The Torras Diamond Shield ranks #14 overall for performance. It has above-average optical clarity at 0.91 (average is 0.88), but struggles with glare. Specular and diffusive glare readings are both higher than average, leading to an overall glare increase of 13.95%—more than double the group average of 5.64%. You’ll notice the difference under bright lights or sunlight.

The oleophobic coating is decent but not amazing. Oil droplets traveled 6cm in 40.53 seconds—slightly faster than average—but they left behind a trail of small droplets. It ranks 5th for droplet speed but 13th for droplet bubbling. In simple terms: the coating spreads fine but isn’t very clean when it comes to residue.

Protection

For protection, the Torras protector ranks #14. It performed as expected in scratch tests—scratching at 6H and 7H, which is standard for tempered glass. The edges took 91.7N of force to break, above the 86.18N average, but its impact resistance was only 252.6N—well below the average of 271.44N. So while the edges are decent, the center can still crack from a sharp impact. That’s not exactly “aerospace-grade” protection, no matter what the packaging claims.

Value

The Torras Diamond Shield is priced at $26 for a 2-pack, or about $13 per protector. That puts it in the budget category, and it does offer good value if your priorities are design and clean installs. But if you’re after top-tier performance and impact protection, there are better options available—even at this price point.

Verdict

The Torras Diamond Shield looks great on paper and installs cleanly, but it underperforms in key areas that matter most—glare, impact resistance, and overall screen clarity under real-world use. If you’re careful with your phone and value premium packaging and a sleek look, it’s a fair pick. But if you want true protection and performance, you’ll need to look elsewhere.
