Are the Apple cases any good? They’re not bad but they are expensive.

Should you get the default Apple cases for the iPhone 6 or 6+? We’re usually a little hesitant to review a manufacturers default case but when we got our 6+, the only case that was available was the default Apple case so we had to get it. We do have to say that we’re pleasantly surprised with this case.

At Mobile Reviews Eh!, we base our reviews on actual usage so you’re not going to find a unbox review video here. We score our cases in the same manner to ensure that you get the best information after using it for a while. Since this Apple case was our goto case for Aaron’s 6+, it’s basically done everything Aaron’s used his iPad for. Like using it for recipes during cooking, the slo-mo camera for a couple of drop tests and the best part was finding out how scratch resistant the Silicone case actually is.

Now these Apple cases will offer very little protection but are well built and offers great accessibility to your iPhone 6. However, when it comes to handling, the silicone ones do handle better than the lester ones. Based on our time with the cases, we gave the Apple silicone case a score of 4.2 ehs out of 5 and the leather version 3.9 Ehs out of 5.

Design – The silicone Apple case is scratch resistant? That’s a surprise

Apple Silicone Case ReviewWe’re very impressed with how scratch resistant the Silicone version of the case is. To see how scratch resistant a case is, we usually run the case along the ground in the office in the same spot and it will literally destroy some cases like the Spigen Tough Armor but the Apple case shows is fine. The only other case that survives like this is Tech 21 case.

For the silicone versions of the Apple cases for the iPhone 6, the texture of the case makes it much easier to use your iPhone 6 as well as the 6+ in one hand. So if you’re a one-handed iPhone afficiando, get this case. For the leather versions of the case, its much slipper in your hand and it scratches a little easier than the silicon version which is why the scores are a bit lower. A little ironic since the case that’s more expensive is going to increase the chance of your dropping your 1000 dollar device.

This case is one of the slimmest iPhone cases that we’ve reviewed. It fits tightly against the iPhone 6 and surprisingly feels quite solid. You’ll notice how solid the case is when you try to take it off which isn’t that difficult so if you’re looking for an case to take out without the bulk of a tough or protective iPhone case, this might the Apple cases might work for you.

Protection – Doesn’t add much protection to your iPhone 6 or 6 plus

In terms of protection, the Apple cases offer minimal drop and water protection. It might prevent the screen from shattering on a light drop but we don’t feel comfortable purposely dropping our iPhones in this case which is why it’s one of the lowest rated cases on our list.

For the screen, the edge of the case is extends a couple of mm’s off the screen so it will provide a bit of clearance for your iPhone if you’re putting it face first on a table. This edge is about as high as the edge of the Spigen Tough Armor and Tech 21 impactology cases.

Functionality – Accessing your iPhone in this case won’t be a problem

The Apple cases do not prevent you from accessing your iPhones touchscreen. Nothing gets in the way and given that these are Apple cases, we’d expect nothing less. Imagine the irony if an Apple cases got in the way of the functionality of an iPhone product. Jony Ives would probably go crazy.

Does the Apple Silicone Case for the iPhone 6/6 Plus attract lint and dirt while it’s in your pocket? Let me know because I really like this case but I wouldn’t enjoy a lot of lint on the back of the case.

After using for a year, I’v had no dirt issues on the case itself, only in the camera cutout, but that is normal for any case. My silicone case didn’t make it to a year though, due to a problem I just mentioned here (silicone layer came off)

I’v had the silicone version for around a year. The silicone peeled completely off from taking in and out of my jeans, after the silicone came off the plastic surface below was so slippery it was unusable. Beware.
