Incipio DualPro Review – iPhone 6/6 Plus

The Incipio DualPro is a well-built slim iPhone 6 and 6 Plus case. Why can’t other cases be like the DualPro?

[toggle title=”Watch the Incipio DualPro Review on YouTube”][/toggle]

The Incipio DualPro is a great iPhone case. We’ll be honest with you, this is one of our favorite iPhone cases to date and that’s saying something because we haven’t had much luck with other Incipio products like the Atlas ID. The iPhone inside the case feels and is well-protected and we’re really big fans of the the materials that Incipio used but some people may not like the texture of the case.

The DualPro comes in two pieces, a polycarbonate frame made from Plextonium and a shock absorbing inner core made from dLAST TPE. Basically, the sleeve that the iPhone sits in doesn’t stretch and absorbs shock while the outer layer is shock resistant and we’re going to add, scratch resistant which is always a great feature in a case. This case fits your iPhone like a tailored suit and for 30 bucks, it’s a great deal.

Based on our review period for the Incipio DualPro review, we gave it a score of 4.2 Eh’s out of 5. This isn’t our highest rated iPhone case but it is one of our favorites. It’s scored the same as the Urban Armor Gear, higher than the Spigen Tough Armor and is just a bit lower than the Tech 21 Classic Shell.

Design – It feels like rubber but isn’t grip like rubber?

Incipio DualPro Review - Color, well-designed casesThe build-quality of the Incipio DualPro is its standout feature. The pieces fit very well together and aren’t loose like some of the edges you’d find on cases like the Otterbox Commuter. The outer shell fits tightly with the inner sleeve and is fairly scratch resistant. We didn’t realize how nice this scratch resistance is until we compared it to other cases like the Speck CandyShell that are magnets for scratches. I’m not sure how else to put it but the Incipio DualPro is going to age well.

The Incipio DualPro will almost double the thickness of your iPhone and like most iPhone cases, add an extra 1/8 inch around your iPhone. Installing your iPhone into the case is simple and you can get away with installing the iPhone without having to take the case apart.

Protection – Slim protection that protects your iPhone from 4ft drops

Given that Incipio has drop-rated their case to 4ft, we had to drop $2000 dollars worth of iPhones to ensure that the case will protect your iPhone for our Incipio DualPro review. We’ve come across several cases that are “tough” but they don’t say how high you can drop it. With the DualPro, it’s drop rated to 4ft and we can attest to that since we dropped $2000 dollars worth of iPhones in these DualPro’s.

In terms of protection, the lip of the case isn’t significant but it will extend past the iPhone’s touchscreen a couple of mm’s so it will keep the iPhone’s screen off a flat surface. The edges don’t extend past the rounded area of the iPhone so it’s compatible with other screen protectors. We will add that Incipio doesn’t include a screen protector with this case.

As another side note for the drop rating of the Incipio DualPro, the iPhone 6 Plus version doesn’t have the same drop information as the iPhone 6 version. Whether this is an oversight by Incipio, we still feel comfortable dropping our iPhone 6 Plus in this case.

Functionality – Might be an issue with larger headphone jacks

Incipio DualPro Review - HeadPhone Jack IssueAs we mentioned at the beginning, the case is pretty slick and can easily slide out of your hand if you’re not careful. If you’re a person who likes to use their iPhones with 2 hands, this might not be a problem but if you’re a 1-hander, this might not be the case for you.

Getting to all the hardware functions of your iPhone aren’t hindered by the case but we will say that you might have a bit of trouble using headphone jacks that are larger than the Apple EarPod.

Ok so on october 25 th iv’e posted comment about few cases, its maybe only 4 days later but stuff has changed (my job that’s include dust, hummers , drilling etc)
It’s been 10 days since i started to use the dualpro, the outershell became more gripy , which is great cause i can handle most things like writing this comment in one hand.
Jack enclosures like in the switcheasy cases could complete this case but i’ll find a way to do it alone. The case with the iphone were in my pocket with meter, keys , pencils pretty much everything that would scratch your case , iPhone or both, till now, no scratches.
Insert the iphone is very easy, but you really should be careful when take it out cause above the camera cutout the plastic is thin .
So my brothers got the UAG , pure gear dualtek and switcheasy numbers. Why i think now after using for ten days he is better then the others?
The UAG have this cutouts that if water glass spill on your table will be a problem, and dust, plus the UAG maybe smaller but much more slippery .
The pure gear is just too much bulky , the dualtek will provide you better falling protection then the incipio but dust can enter from everywhere cause he got this weird protection system.
Switcheasy numbers, he got the jack protectors but in case of droping the phone , well , i wouldn’t try it.. One layer of tpu , very grippy feels good and sits perfectly on the iphone 6, in the very slim category he will be my winner but in the slim and protective he can’t compete

Now i still waiting for the mightyshell real dimensions cause it seems in best buy online store he is smaller then the iphone, if he will be as the dualpro or less i’ll try it.
And above all because i like to travel a lot
And i like cold and winter i’m really waiting for something new from lifeproof and incipio atlas.

Would the incipio stowaway case have the same quality or is going to be a lot different than the dualpro?

We have a stow-away for the iPhone 5 and it’s made of a hard plastic. I’m not sure about the 6 since we don’t physically have one.

Love all your reviews, and your YouTube channel is mint.
I’m also wondering about the Incipio Stowaway for the iPhone 6 Plus. The website for Incipio doesn’t show off their products to their full advantage. Hmmm, maybe a credit card category is an option for you to review some more cases? There must be some good ones among the loads of (excuse my language) crap ones… Hoping so, & anyway, a girl can dream 🙂

I might do the card cases again. I did a few for the 5/5s and there weren’t many takers. I’ll give it a try for the 6’s and see what happens. Thanks for the comment.

Great review, thanks for being so thorough!

My question is about the “rubber” texture on the hard plastic shell. Is it an applied finish or is it inherent in the type of plastic? Do you think it will scratch or peel with future use? I heard this was an issue for the DualPro on the iPhone 5 cases.

    Thanks!

      Craig,

I’ve heard of the same issues but I haven’t head any viewers comment on that happening on the 6 version of the cases.

    Hi,
The Lime green Incipio case is one of my hot favorites. I bought it from The Source, in Canada for a sale price. Unfortunately, my happiness did not last long as the cover, given the light color and the finish is a dirt magnet. After putting it in my jeans pocket a few times, the edges have taken on the color of the jeans. Now you might say that my jeans is to be blamed, well I have been wearing the same jeans since some time and have used several other cases(including white ones), but none of them have caught on to the color. More importantly, the case does not seem to let go off the blue color from the jeans. They were kind enough to send me a dark colored replacement; their customer service is great.
And yes, you are right, the case is extremely slippery but after repeated use, gets grippy.

Thanks for the comment! Good to know it gets grippier over time. I just noticed my yellow DualPro seems to be discoloured around the edges but I don’t notice it on the red one.

    Aaron,

Just want to thank you for what you do! Your extensive, unbiased information you provide in your reviews, both written and video-based is top notch. You really helped me find a solid case that I can feel good about protecting my 6 plus.

Keep doing what you do, man!

Is it easy to press the buttons with the case on? Or does it require a little bit of strength to press the buttons such as power etc.

    Hey Aaron,
Just curiously, I’ve bought the dual pro to tide me over on my six until my 6s+ arrives!

Is there a screen protector you could recommend that would cover the touchable area without getting caught on the case edges?

I have a glass on there now but in my opinion it’s quite small and I’m uncomfortable with how much of my actual phone is exposed!

Cheers keep up the great reviews!

The cinder or iLoome screen mate max cover the touch id area.

    Hey Aaron,

I read your review on the incipio octane and noted on the difficulty of pairing that case with a screen protector.

Will this case be compatible with edge to edge protectors with rounded edges (as opposed to cupert’s curved edges)?

I wanted to buy Cupert so bad but having looked at all the awful reviews from indiegogo and amazon, im quite wary of migrating to the curved edges until more players are in the market.

I’m not sure. The difference between having the case prop up the screen protector and not is tiny. Even installing the Cinder slightly off will cause it to be incompatible with a case. For example, I’ve got one of the Cinder’s that everybody is complaining about on a Thule Atmos X4…a case that several veiwers have complained about when used with the Cinder isn’t compatible.

Your safest bet is to use a screen protector that just reaches the edge of the toucheable area if you want to make sure it is compatible with the Octane.

Can this case be dropped up to 6ft, or is 4feet the limit?

    • Aaron Ho

      November 9, 2015 at 4:36 pm

Rated to 4 ft but you could drop it form 6 and hope for the best.
