We’ve got a weird relationship with Moft. Some of their stuff is genuinely clever, and some of it makes us question every design meeting they’ve ever had. So when we started testing the Moft Movas Case, we honestly weren’t sure which side it would land on.
How We Test

Our goal is to find out what cases are actually best for your iPhone. We don’t base our reviews on any of the marketing a company wants you to believe. We’re reviewers, not influencers.
Our case testing procedure for the iPhone 17’s:
- Buy the case ourselves
- Measure all the physical dimensions of the case:
- Weight
- Size
- Back rigidity
- Corner/Back Thickness
- Corner compression
- Rank the handling and access of the iPhone in the case
- Perform magnetic strength tests using a force meter
- Perform audio tests (if needed using a DB meter)
- Perform 30 corner, face and camera lump drop tests. This data is collected from the iPhone’s accelerometer and gyroscope. We’ve built custom drop rigs to ensure every drop almost identical. To gauge the iPhone’s protective abilities, we measure:
- Average peak deceleration
- Average decay rate
- Average impulse
- Average max rotation
- Average angular displacement
- Average settling time
- After we collect all the data, we then run it through or scoring formula to figure out how well the case ranks.
We’ve got a few more ideas to implement for the next round of iPhone’s including more data collection during drops as well as high speed camera photos of the initial impacts.

If you’ve been craving a replacement for Apple’s old leather case, the Moft Movas might scratch that itch. Just to be clear, “vegan leather” doesn’t mean it’s grown on a happy, free-range plant. Vegan leather just means it’s a plastic made from dead living things with a fancy name. The material wraps around the whole exterior, including the sides, while the iPhone sits on a microfiber bed that even extends across the camera bump.
The oddest design choice is the bottom area. There’s a small internal cavity that creates two different back thicknesses. We’re not sure if it’s a cost-cutting quirk or some mysterious “Moft magic,” but it definitely stands out. Still, this is an ultra-thin, ultra-light case which only adds 38g of weight and making your iPhone feel about 52% bulkier.
The Movas Case is so weird on paper. The corners are only 1.7mm thick, the back is 2mm, and the thin lower section is again 1.7mm. But rigidity is where Moft literally flexes. It takes a massive 62N to bend the case 8mm, which is 116% stiffer than average. That should help in drops in theory.

The plastic-leather texture feels decent. It smooth, not too slick, but definitely not grippy. Pretty standard for anything leather-like. The buttons, however, are strange. They’re metal, but built into the case, and the edges feel sharp enough that you’ll notice them every time you press anything. Button feel overall? Bleh.
The camera control button is covered, screen access is fine thanks to the low edges, and the port cutout is just barely too small for our biggest cables. The edges look sharp but remember, this is plastic leather so they’re more aggressive visually than physically. For MagSafe, it hits 8.1N pull and 7.7N push, which is basically average.

Corner drops were surprising. Initial impact was just 8G—23% better than average. Great start. But then the problems showed up. Rotation after impact was 41% higher, it took 38% longer to settle, and overall total force only ended up about 6% lower. That ultra-rigid back absorbed the hit beautifully, but then stored all that energy and let the iPhone bounce and ring longer than it should.
The real disappointment was the face-first drop. Even though the corners were harder to pull off than average and the top section was incredibly stiff, the iPhone (with a screen protector installed) still flexed enough to touch the ground. Not great.
For the camera bump, Moft uses a PC lip. Initial impact was 11% lower than average, but again, the settling rate was 18% longer with the total force ending 13% lower overall.
Value
If you’re specifically craving a leather-style case that looks and feels more premium than plastic, this might be worth considering. It’s light, it looks good, and it feels expensive. But you’re paying for the aesthetic, not for reliable protection.
Verdict
Would we buy this case if we weren’t reviewers? Maybe, if we desperately wanted that Apple-leather vibe back. But as an everyday protective case? No. The buttons are unpleasant, the design quirks are questionable, and the face-first drop performance just isn’t dependable. It’s a style piece, not a safety net.
