If you’ve ever looked at a case with massive corners and thought, “That’s gotta be tough,” well… not always. In our ongoing hunt for the best iPhone cases of 2025 and the Ornarto Vortex might be one of the strangest entries so far.
How We Test

Our goal is to find out what cases are actually best for your iPhone. We don’t base our reviews on any of the marketing a company wants you to believe. We’re reviewers, not influencers.
Our case testing procedure for the iPhone 17’s:
- Buy the case ourselves
- Measure all the physical dimensions of the case:
- Weight
- Size
- Back rigidity
- Corner/Back Thickness
- Corner compression
- Rank the handling and access of the iPhone in the case
- Perform magnetic strength tests using a force meter
- Perform audio tests (if needed using a DB meter)
- Perform 30 corner, face and camera lump drop tests. This data is collected from the iPhone’s accelerometer and gyroscope. We’ve built custom drop rigs to ensure every drop almost identical. To gauge the iPhone’s protective abilities, we measure:
- Average peak deceleration
- Average decay rate
- Average impulse
- Average max rotation
- Average angular displacement
- Average settling time
- After we collect all the data, we then run it through or scoring formula to figure out how well the case ranks.
We’ve got a few more ideas to implement for the next round of iPhone’s including more data collection during drops as well as high speed camera photos of the initial impacts.

For our hunt to find the best iPhone 17 case, we went digging for another odd-looking case and ended up with the Ornarto Vortex. After using it for a while, the best way to describe it is simple: this thing is basically a bouncy ball for your iPhone. It seems to be a silicone case, which means pocket pull is strong, and those oversized, squishy corners make the whole thing look like it’s built to survive anything. There’s a spiral design on the back that actually doesn’t look too bad, and the iPhone sits on a full bed of microfiber that wraps around all the edges. The case weighs 49 g and increases the bulk of your iPhone by 64%.
The corners are a massive 5 mm thick. They are soft, squishy, and very much part of the Vortex identity. The back ranges between 2 mm and 2.4 mm in thickness. There’s a PC layer running through the back, so the first impression is that the case feels stiffer than normal. But the overall construction still feels thin. It took 26.3 N to bend the case 8 mm, which is about 8% below average.

When it comes to handling, it’s surprisingly good. The silicone finish gives you grip everywhere, and those big corners nest nicely into your palm. The edges are boxier, so your fingers get a bunch of anchor points to hold onto. The integrated buttons aren’t bad either. The silicone cases usually do this well since the material has better give. Screen access is decent thanks to the low, flat edges. The port cutout is just big enough for large cables, and while the edges are a bit sharp, the silicone flexes enough that it’s not too annoying. Pinky support is fine.
MagSafe, however, is a different story. It took 7.3 N to pull accessories off and 7.9 N to push them which is about 24% below average. We wouldn’t trust this case on a car mount.

This is where things fall apart. Remember how we said the case feels like a bouncy ball? Turns out that’s bad. In our corner drop tests, the iPhone logged 14.3 Gs which is 37% higher than average. Rotation was also 33% higher, and while the phone stopped ringing 47% faster, the total impact force was 55% worse than average. Those giant corners absorbed energy, but the initial hit was massive.
Face-first drops weren’t as catastrophic. Initial impact was 10% higher, but the total force was 16% below average since the case stopped moving quickly. Still not great, but not terrible.
Camera-lump drops were rough again. Thanks to a huge TPU lip, the initial impact was 60% higher than average, settling was 28% better, but the total force ended up 61% higher. Basically, making a case more bouncy turns your phone into a projectile instead of protecting it.
Value
The Ornarto Vortex is interesting to look at and surprisingly fun to fidget with because of the bouncy corners. But once you factor in real protection, the value drops fast. You’re essentially paying for a novelty design with below-average drop safety and weak MagSafe performance. Unless the aesthetic is your top priority, there are far better options at this price.
Verdict
Would we use this case if we weren’t reviewing it? Honestly, probably not. We like the design, we like the grip, and the bounciness is admittedly entertaining. But protection is the whole point of a case, and the Vortex just can’t deliver. Even though we don’t drop our personal iPhones often, the data is the data and this one doesn’t make the cut.
