Today we’re going to do a review of the Rokform Aluminum case for the iPHone 6 and 6 Plus. This is different kind of case and we’ll be blunt with you, certain aspects of the case really bother me.

The Rokform Fusion Aluminum iPhone case is a uniquely designed iPhone case that includes a thick aluminum bracket that has several cutouts in it. Access to your iPhone is decent in the case though despite having the aluminum bracket, protection isn’t as high as other slim cases.

Based on our time with this case, we gave it a score of 3.7 Eh’s out of 5. This is one of our lower rated cases and the only way that is lower is the Otterbox Commuter, on the same level as the Bric+ Extreme and Ballistic Tough jacket. Design – Bulky but solid

Rokform Aluminum Case Review - Is your iPhone protected? In terms of design, the Rokform Aluminum case is fairly bulky but despite the added bulk, doesn’t add a lot of weight to the iPhone. The general build quality of the Rokform Aluminum case is pretty spectacular as it fits well together. It is compatible with most screen protectors and the aluminum doesn’t show excessive wear and tear as the raised edges on the corners keep the aluminum bracket off a flat surface.

The aluminum bracket is fairly sizeable and has lots of sharp edges that take a bit of getting use to. The majority of the back is finished with a brushed look with the X of the bracket being finished slightly differently.

The carbon fibre inset is taped on the inside of the case which makes your 100 dollar case seem a little cheap and if that really nice sticker comes off, the inset can move around.

We do have to note that taking the case off is pretty terrible due to the rigidity of the bracket but that’s something most people aren’t going to worry about.

One of the things that we noticed was that the iPhone doesn’t sit in the middle of the case which means that the iPhone’s screen has less protection when compare to other cases. If you install your a thicker glass screen protector, there very little keeping your iPhone’s front off a flat surface. It’s these design aspects that really bug us about the Rokform aluminum case for the iPhone 6.

Protection – The aluminum bracket is tough…

Rokform Aluminum Case Review - iPhone 6/6 PlusIn terms of protection, we feel that this case won’t do much to protect your iPhone. It’s not drop rated but the TPU bumper seems thick enough that it will absorb the shock of a small drop. With that being said, the Rokform website touts the toughness of their cases but without specific’s we decided not to risk our own iPhone’s in a case that’s not drop-rated.

Dust and debris will also be a concern as the cutouts on the case are fairly large and there is a sizeable gap between the iPhone and the case. We’re also not fans of these gaps as its useless space in our opinion. What’s the point of bulking up your iPhone if all that extra bulk doesn’t make the iPhone better?

This $100 dollar case also doesn’t come with a screen protector.

One of the good things about this case is that it will protect most of your iPhone from bending, if you tried to bend it in the middle. From our experience, the majority of the bending occurs closer to the corners of the iPhone rather than the middle so this aluminum plate isn’t going to do much in our opinion.

In terms of screen protection, the Rokform Aluminum Case has very low edges. The edges are so low that if you were to use a slightly thicker screen protector, the screen protector isn’t going to have much clearance with a flat surface.

Functionality – Where’s the sleep button on my iPhone?

Rokform Aluminum Case Review - How much harmful stuff can I fit in that gap?Getting to your iPhone in this case is decent though the buttons on the case are “hidden” in the sense that you can’t easily find them if you’re not looking at your iPhone. During our time with the case, we often “missed” the sleep button as our thumb wasn’t able to find it on the first try which becomes frustrating over time.

You’re able to use larger than average cables and the camera/flash cutout is large enough that it won’t get in the way of your pictures. We didn’t notice any signal attenuation due to the aluminum bracket which is nice.

Access to your iPhone’s touchscreen is wonderful because the edges of the case are so low that you can easily get to the edges of your iPhone without any trouble.

    Hi Aaron,

Have you heard of the Omaker bumper case for the iPhone 6/6+ ? They are very inexpensive but they seem very durable. My wife has one for her 6+ and she’s dropped it like 3 times so far and not a scratch on it. I would be interested if you could do a review on these cases. They come in smoke color and clear (my wife has the smoke) and look pretty decent.

    Thanks,
    Justin
