Shumuri Duo and Slim Extra Review – One is calming and according the other is “useless” according to an old friend

Today we’re going to do a review of Shumuri’s Duo and Slim Extra cases. These are thin, lightweight, minimalist cases that don’t offer a lot of drop protection but will keep your iPhone, looking like an iPhone.

The Slim Extra is quite thin, registering 0.35mm while the Duo is a little thicker but has a glossy back that comes in calming patterns.

For our Shumuri Duo and Slim Extra Review we’ve given the Slim Extra a score of 3.6 Eh’s out of 5 and the Duo a score of 3.9 Eh’s out of 5. The lack of protection for both cases really hurts them in our scoring system and the Slim Extra has a build quality issue that we’re not fond of.

If you’re wondering about similar cases, check out our review for the Caudabe Veil and for cases that are similar in term so size to the Duo, check out the Moshi iGlaze and Expro by Onpro. Looking for other cases, just search or them (it works quite well!).

Shumuri Duo Review – The TPU does feel soft!

Shumuri Duo Review - iPhone 6 cases - Textured EdgesThe Shumuri Duo is a case made from a soft and flexible TPU material. The edges of the case have a bit of texture which helps with the handling of the iPhone inside the case. The glossy back will scratch over time but the wear and tear isn’t overly noticeable.

For protection, Shumari says it provides Standard protection. We have no idea what standard protection means. We will say that Duo covers all the corners and edges of the iPhone and will keep the iPhone’s screen off a flat, clean surface. The case isn’t drop rated but the TPU should provide a tiny bit of shock absorption when you drop your iPhone accidently.

Getting to your iPhone is a cinch in the case. Buttons are easy to use and the cutouts are large enough for other accessories. The glossy back, despite looking nice aesthically, is quite smooth and makes the iPhone feel less stable in our hands.

Shumuri Slim Extra Review – Super thin and “useless”?

Shumuri Slim Extra Review - iPhone 6 cases - Build quality issuesThis is the product that our old friend Agata called “useless”. If you don’t want to deal with adhesive skins but still want to keep your iPhone slick and slim, the Slim Extra might be an option for you. The Shumuri Slim Extra is very thin, like the Caudabe Veil, and is as light as a feather. One of the benefits of this case over the regular Veil is that the camera is raised slightly. The Slim Extra has a frosted texture which doesn’t add much to handling.

In terms of protection, it will stop your keys and coins from scuffing up the body of the iPhone but that’s about it. The edges don’t extend past the iPhone so screen protection is non existence.

Getting to your iPhone is great because it’s like there is nothing there. There are cutouts for all the buttons you’re are just using your iPhone. The frosted texture on the case doesn’t add much in terms of the grippiness so your iPhone will handle like there wasn’t a case on at all!
