Tech 21 Evo Mesh Review – iPhone 6

Protect your iPhone from drops with a case that you can crumple in your hand?

Today we’re going to do the review for the Evo Mesh for iPhone 6. This is a unique case as you won’t find it on Tech21’s website as we were only able to get them at our Apple store. We’ve spent a bit of time with the case and we had to ask ourself if we felt safe putting our iPhone in a case that can be crumpled up into a ball.

The Evo mesh is quite grippy. We’re big fans of how well it sits in your hand but we do have a couple of issues with the fit and the build quality of the case. Also, we’ve discovered that this iPhone case is the second favourite place that Aaron’s face grease likes to exist.

Based on our time for this Tech 21 Evo Mesh Review, we gave it a score of 3.9 Eh’s out of 5. This case doesn’t fare as well as Tech 21’s own Classic Shell in our opinion as it’s not as tough or well built but it does rate as well as a Speck Candyshell. If you’d rather read the rest of this review, check out our website and if you want to see how this case fares against other cases, check out our handy comparison tool.

Design – Comes off easily but it’s grippy!

In terms of design, the Evo Mesh is a pretty thin iPhone case as it can easily go in and out of your pockets easily. In terms of build quality, we do like the materials of the case as it provides decent slip protection both front and back which is nice but we feel it doesn’t fit as well as it should in our opinion. As we showed you at the beginning of the video, the case is very pliable so it comes off the iPhone quite easily. Also, the thinner portions of the case, right around the ports can be easily pressed down.

Protection – Will definitely protect your iPhone’s touchscreen

For protection, the packaging on the Evo Mesh is all about the FlexShock. Not D30 like the Classic shell. Tech 21’s packaging has the word “impact” showing up over a dozen times and fancy diagrams that show how the black arrows become white and red arrows. Now my first glance at this case was that “it’s goto be the toughest iPhone case ever” until you realize their’s no mil-specs, there’s no drop height. There’s just a fancy diagram and whatever Tech 21 says. But in the spirit of this review, here’s what happens when you drop it from chest height.

The edges of the case are a little lower than other cases and with a screen protector installed, there’s very little clearance between the edge and the screen. This iPhone has Tech 21’s self healing screen protector but anything thicker and there might not be much clearance between the edge of the case and iPhone’s touchscreen.

Functionality – Its not as clear as Zagg makes it out to be

In terms of functionality during our test period for this Tech 21 Evo Mesh Review, getting to your iPhone inside is decent but the power buttons is a little harder to get to which is odd since the volume buttons are incredibly easy to press. The last thing worth nothing is that this case will easily handle all sorts of sized cables such as the bigger head on these Awesome cables and the headphone.

I am a fan of your all’s case reviews and helping people find the case that gives them the best bang for their buck. I came across a new case, the lunatik aquatik I wanted to see if you all could make a YouTube review over this case, since it is so thin and claims to be waterproof. Thanks!

Hi Aaron, Wow, your tech21 EvoMesh case is nothing like my EvoMesh case! I purchased mine in the white/clear soon after the iPhone 6 was introduced last year. At the time it was an Apple store exclusive, now you can also find it on the tech21 website: https://www.tech21.com/en_us/evo-mesh-case-for-apple-iphone-6-clear-white The model # is T21-5006. Clearly stated on the website (under Description)) is the drop height of 2 m / 6.6 ft. My case is very classy looking, highest-quality and fits like a dream. It most definitely does NOT crumple, (it’s pliable like the Incipio NGP) nor does the back scratch. It has a lovely feel in hand, both sleek and grippy. I’m replacing it after a year only because it picked up color-transfer from my blue jeans. I’ve been very happy with it – it’s a design worthy of the 6, and not overpriced at USD $40. Please do contact Tech21 to look into this (I’ve no affiliation). You have some sort of inferior item there! Regards, Kathleen

Good to know. Maybe different colors used different materials. Next time I’m at the Apple store, I’ll check out the white/clear one.

Hi Aaron, Wow_ your EvoMesh case is very different than my EvoMesh case! I purchased mine in clear/white last fall from the Apple store. At the time, it was exclusive to Apple, now you can also find it on the Tech21 website: https://www.tech21.com/en_us/evo-mesh-case-for-apple-iphone-6-clear-white The model # is T21-5006. Under Description you’ll find the drop height stated to be 2 m / 6.6 ft. Unlike yours, my case is very classy, very well made of TPU and absolutely does not crumple in the least! It’s firm yet bendable, like the Incipio NGP. Fit and finish are impeccable – it’s ideally snug, and feels great in hand, sleek and grippy both. Openings on the base are very well executed. Only similarity seems to be the somewhat too-firm power button, but either I’ve become used to the feel, or it’s eased with use. (The only reason I’m replacing mine – it’s shown outstanding durability and does NOT scratch – is that it picked up color-transfer from my blue jeans.) It’s a case worthy of the 6, and worth the USD $40 I paid, and am paying again. I strongly suggest you contact Tech21 about your case (I have no affiliation); I suspect you have your hands on a reject, or a crappy fake. Can you locate the item number on your box? It’s beneath the barcode on back. The 5006 is too good and lovely a case to be missed/ misrepresented! The only other case I’m kind of! considering (I’ve tried most of your top 10) is the SwitchEasy Numbers http://www.switcheasy.com/iphone-6/18-numbers#92 . Hope you are well! Best, Kathleen
