X-Doria Defense Shield Review – A decent metal bumper iPhone case

Today we’re going to do a review on the X-Doria Defense Shield for the iPhone 6s+. This is a metal bumper iPhone case that has a clear back. Also, this is one of the few cases that may prevent accidental iPhone bending (if you’re worried about it) but the case will add a bit more weight and bulk to your iPhone.

For our X-Doria Defense Shield Review, we’ve given this case a score of 4.2 Eh’s out of 5. This case is definitely better than the Bric Extreme and the Rokform Fusion, is on the same level as the Moshi iGlaze Luxe but doesn’t come close to our favorite aluminum bumper, the K11 bumper by Thanotech. If you need more case alternatives, check out our comparison tool.

Design – It’s a big case

In terms of design, the X-Doria Defense shield will add quite a bit of bulk to your iPhone but according to X-Doria’s website, the size is almost intentional. We’ve noticed that cases that are similar in design tend to be larger than average. This case is as bulky as the Moshi iGlaze Luxe and Bric Extreme. There is a definitely size difference between this case and the last iPhone case we reviewed, the Evutec Karbon SI.

The Defense shield does feel incredibly solid. Your iPhone is definitely going to be protected by the case. However, the metal bumper will show wear and tear quicker if you’re clumsy with your iPhone as dropping it will result in the bumper getting scratched up. The clear back of the case though raised, will collect scratches over time.

Installation of the case is a little tougher than your typical slim case as fitting the metal bumper over the TPU sleeve takes a bit of effort. If you’re planning to get this case, we recommend that you don’t cut your fingernails before installation as you’ll need them to fit the TPU sleeve under the metal frame.

Protection – Bigger and tougher than most cases

In terms of protection, the defense is drop rated to 6.6ft or 2m which is quite substantial. Unless you’re a giant, there’s a good chance you’re not going to drop your iPhone from this height. The multiple layers of the case add extra protection and the edges of the case are high enough to keep your iPhone off a flat surface.

Despite its $50 dollar price tag, X-Doria doesn’t include a screen protector in the case.

Functionality – No issues here

We had no issues accessing the iPhone inside the Defense Shield. The screen usability was top notch despite having higher than average edges. We were initially a little concerned about the handling of the case but the TPU sleeve extends past the metal bumper which means it’s not going to slide around in your hand much.

Again, for our X-Doria Defense Shield Review, we gave this iPhone 6 case a score of 4.4 Eh’s out of 5. Have questions? Please ask them on our Google+ page or our Facebook page or our About Us page.

Thinking about getting this case or a Rhinoshield PlayProof for my iPhone 6s. Which would you recommend among the thinner cases?

The Xdoria is a little bulkier than the Playproof and because its metal, won’t wear as well if you drop your iPhones a lot. I like the THule Atmos X4 a lot as well but you can’t go wrong with a Playproof. I made another vide (haven’t released it yet) where I drop an iPhone in the Playproof over 40 times from heights of 3 ft to 11 ft and the iPhone still works.

Haven’t seen as many videos out there on the Lux version of this case, but am stuck in deciding between these two, would the Lux be worth the extra money? How would you compare these two cases?
