Anker 622 MagGo Magnetic Foldable Battery Review: Features Roundup

If you’re looking for a battery case that offers a little more juice than the standard iPhone battery case, the Anker 622 Magnetic Battery (MagGo) is a great option.

This case has a 5000 mA battery with a rated capacity of around 3200 (as tested). That’s enough to give your iPhone 13 or 12 a decent-sized extra boost, and it’s also Qi-certified for wireless charging. The MagGo also has a built-in stand that offers one viewing angle (two if you’re in a pinch). This stand cleverly folds into the back of the battery pack and helps keep the profile slim.

If you need to charge up to two devices in a hurry, this MagSafe battery pack also supports two-way charging via the USB-C port. The MagGo is available in multiple color finishes, so you can choose the one that best matches your style.

Anker 622 MagGo Magnetic Foldable Battery Review: The Good

Anker 622 MagGo is a slim case that has a soft rubber finish that feels great in the hand, and the built-in magnetic charging stand is stable enough to support even the largest iPhones in both portrait and landscape orientations.

The stand itself is rather ingenious as it mimics the functionality of Apple’s own iPad SmartCovers. To set up the stand, you pull it from the back of the battery pack and attach one end to the middle. You could also fold the stand completely to the bottom but that wasn’t as stable from our testing.

Best of all, the MagGo’s slim design means you can still use your iPhone with the charger attached without feeling too bulky. And when it’s time to travel, the MagGo’s compact size makes it easy to pack along.

Wireless charging isn’t handled automatically with the MagGo – you need to turn the battery pack on. Once it’s on, just slide it over the iPhone until it snaps on.The MagGo also features an LED power indicator so you can easily check how much charge is remaining.

Anker 622 MagGo Magnetic Foldable Battery Review: The Bad

The Anker 622 Magnetic Battery is one of the slowest-recharging portable battery packs in our 10+ test grou, taking close to 3 hours to fully replenish its power.

Additionally, it doesn’t provide MagSafe wireless charging speeds, as the wireless output is only 7.5W. And while the USB C Output doesn’t have power delivery (PD) fast charging, the maximum wired output is 12 W which isn’t terrible.

Finally, the magnetic connection strength is below average; the portable battery pack can detach from a small drop. Anker claims that it has 9N of magnetic while our tests resulted in the product having 8N of magnetic strength.

Also, you can’t charge your iPhone or the battery pack in stand mode because the port is on the bottom of the product.

Final Thoughts

The Anker 622 Magnetic Battery is a great product for those looking for the occasional charge with a slim MagSafe compatible battery pack. This battery pack is a great alternative to the Apple MagSafe Battery Pack and offers similar charging speeds and capacities. This battery pack is also compatible with all of the latest iPhones, making it a great choice for those with newer devices.
