iPhone 7 Rumors – No 3.5 mm jack?

If this iPhone 7 rumor is true…say goodbye to all your headphones?

iPhone 7 Rumors – Stereo Speakers?

Would Apple seriously remove the 3.5 mm headphone jack?

So in the last few days, we’ve seen a rumor sprout up about Apple removing the 3.5mm audio jack on the iPhone 7 in favour of keeping the entire device thinner. Now if this rumor is true, it’s going to piss off a lot of people because of the hundreds of dollars we’ve spent on headphones in the last decade. The headphones will probably be a little more annoying to use (we’re sure Apple will have a 3.5mm jack to Lightning connector). Despite that inconvienience, we think it will be a great change for the three reasons listed below.

Apple is generally not shy from moving away from established standards. Remember when Apple built the first iMac without a floppy drive? It seemed blasphoumous at the time but our lives were forever better when we didn’t have to live in 1.2 mb sized chunks.

1. Removing the 3.5mm headphone jack will result in a stronger iPhone

We’ve damaged enough iPhones to know that the corner around the 3.5 mm jacks is the weakest. Don’t believe us? Check out this video of an extreme drop test we did with an iPhone 6s. The only part of the iPhone that was visibily damaged was the 3.5 mm jack area.

2. No 3.5 mm jack = more space  = more awesome things

No jack results in more room for other things. Thinness is mentioned as the bigger driver but what can Apple do with more space in the iPHone? Bigger battery? or a stereo speaker setup?

3. Tougher/Better iPhone cases

Eliminating the headphone jack means that waterproof iPhone cases will be tougher. Anytime you can reduce the number of seals on a case is generally a good thing.

  • Maybe the headphone jack is missing from that photo because they moved it back to the top (like the iphone 4/3/2) LOL :)

  • Yea... let's not even talk about the powerbutton... why did they move it to the right side anyways? to piss me off that's why- i always hit it by accident on my 6s :(

  • The pic is clearly Photoshopped if u look closely at the volume holes on the left of the phone u can see how it doesn't look as clean as the real side and almost looks like it is not connected to the phone and yes i have Photoshop so I know what it looks like when things are cloned onto a pic

  • If they do end up removing the headphone jack I hope they include IN THE BOX an adaptor like what Aaron mentioned in the post. But I really doubt they do.
