Rhinoshield Impact Protection Review – iPhone 6/6 Plus Screen Protector

Design – So many layers = Lots of protection?

In terms of design, installing and removing this screen protector is pretty average. Evolutive Labs doesn’t include any sort of tool to help you align the screen protector so you end up thumbing the install. They do include stickers to remove dust which is nice. Bubbling isn’t really any issue but it does occur but only during certain instances which I’ll elaborate in the protection portion.

The screen protector on the 6 Plus goes over the edge just slightly whereas the 6 version doesn’t which is odd to me. I personally prefer to have a bit of leeway with the screen protector since it’s almost impossible to install it perfectly which means your iPhone’s touchscreen is exposed.

The build quality of the screen protector is decent as its relatively thin compare to glass screen protectors. We purposely peeled away at the corners of the screen protector for this Rhinoshield Impact Protection Review and the corners don’t really lose their shape (i.e. don’t sit flush with the screen).

Protection – Go ahead, take a hammer to it

In terms of impact protection, as you saw at the beginning of the video, its decent. According to Evolutive Labs, its 5 times as impact absorbant but since we have no way of testing that, we’re going to have to take their word for it.

In terms of scratch protection, this screen protector scores a little lower as anything harder than keys will leave a permanent mark. The screen protector has 3H hardness which is a far cry from the 9H hardness that other glass screen protectors have. After several weeks of use, our screen protector has a ton of little scratches that are only noticeable if you look for them. The bigger scratches that you see in our review video are from sandpaper.

Now for bubbling, one of the things we noticed was when you pressed down hard on the screen protector, bubbles appear. Now they don’t stay as you can easily get rid of them and there’s nothing wrong with the screen protector but its something that we’ve noticed. Impacts that leave a permanent mark will result in the deformation of the screen protector which results in permanent bubbling. This has only occurred when we purposely damaged the screen protector.

Functionality – Nothing gets in the way

In terms of functionality, getting to your iPhone’s touchscreen is going to be a breeze with this screen protector though viewing the screen is a different story. While using the iPhone with the protectors on a day-to-day basis, we noticed that the fingerprint smudging coating seems almost non-existant as the screen protector ends up being a smorgasbord of grease marks which really degrades the quality of the iPhone’s touchscreen as you end up getting diffusion based on the grease which is annoying. However, if you wipe away all the grease, you get a screen protector that is almost unnoticeable, unlike other screen protectors that diffuse the iPhone’s touchscreen which is one of the things that Evolutive Labs says this screen protector is.

The last thing we will mention is that the front/back protectors are quite slick and don’t offer much texture if you’re using the screen protector from the Crash Guard bumper. The only way we can describe it is that it makes the iPhone feel “cheaper” as you know there is definite plastic on the device.
