Bodyguardz ScreenGuardz Pure Review – Tougher than others but that doesn’t make up for the thickness

Today we’re going to do a review for the BodyGuardz ScreenGuardz pure. This is a anti-glare, tempered glass screen protector that does wonders for fingerprint smudges but falls short in terms of sensitivity and fit.

For our Bodyguardz ScreenGuardz Pure Review, we’ve given this tempered glass screen protector a score of 3.6 Eh’s out of 5. This is an average screen protector that does as well as Tech 21 Impact Shield and Spigen Glas.Tr and doesn’t come close to our top screen protectors from Cinder and iLoome. If you’re looking for all the screen protectors that we’ve reviewed, find them on our screen protector comparison page.

Design – Thick and it doesn’t fit…

In terms of design, this is a thick screen protector with a very sharp edge so its going to be very noticeable on your iPhone. Running this screen protector with a lower lipped case like the Griffin Journey, which is a case we just reviewed means that there is very little clearance between the screen protector and surface if placed face down.

There is an upside to the thickness as it makes the screen protector easier to remove. Dust and bubbling aren’t an issue and if you do catch some dust, Bodyguardz does include dust removal stickers.

The screen protector fits the touchable area of the iPhone exactly so if you install the ScreenGuardz Pure a little off, you’ll end up exposing part of the iPhone’s touchscreen. However, the ScreenGuardz Pure does make up skimping along the long side of the screen protector by extending too far past the curved top and bottom edges of the iPhone so it makes your $1000 dollar iPhone look a little cheap. The edges of the screen protector are solid and during our test period, didn’t result in any chipping.

Protection – This screen protector can take a beating

For protection, the ScreenGuardz Pure is generally a little tougher than other screen protectors. It holds up to coins and keys, knives but loses the battle against a metal file. Impact protection is decent as a good thumping with the butt of a pocket knife didn’t result in any damage. On their website, Bodyguardz has a video of a their product being pummelled by lots of different things so they do take the toughness of their product seriously.

Functionality – Sunlight poses a problem

Functionality of the screen protector isn’t great either. This is an anti-glare screen protector which means you won’t be blinded by the sun reflecting off the device but it will blow out the screen so viewing your iPhone in direct sunlight is tough. It looks like there is a minor amount of diffusion but its very, very minor. One of the best things about this screen protector is the protection it provides against fingerprint smudging so if you’re plagued with greasy digits, this might be a good screen protector to go with.

Sensitivity is a big issue for this screen protector. The thickness means that accessing the far edge of your iPhone requires you to run your finger along the edge of the screen protector which is at a 90 degree angle so it doesn’t feel great. The high edges also make using cases with high edges (such as the X-doria Defence Shield) a little awkward as you’ll really notice the gap between the screen protector and case.

Again, we’ve given this tempered glass screen protector a score of 3.6 Eh’s out of 5. The fit and thickness really bring down this screen protector despite being tougher than other glass screen protectors. Have questions about our Bodyguardz ScreenGuardz Pure Review?
