The Spigen Tough Armor Tech is tough, grippy and sounds great

Spigen Tough Armor Tech Review – One of Spigen’s best cases

Today we’re going to do a review of the Spigen Tough Armor Tech for the iPhone 6/6(s+). This is one of Spigen’s newer cases, and we are happy to say, it’s solid. In fact, it’s probably the best tough Spigen case to date. The Tough Armor Tech is drop-rated, has port covers, has a speaker cutout that projects sound forward which is great for gamers. You can also find the buttons on your iPhone easily (unlike the Spigen Tough Armor).

For our Spigen Tough Armor Tech Review, we’ve given this case a score of 4.5 Eh’s out of 5. This is one of the higher rated Spigen cases as it scores just a smidge under Aaron’s current favourite, the Spigen Neo Hybrid Carbon and is way better than either the Tough and Slim Armors. If you’re looking something as highly rated, check out the Thule Atmos X4, Rhinoshield Playproof and the Griffin Survivor Core.

Design – Rock…solid!

In terms of design, the Spigen Tough Armor Tech is one of the larger Spigen cases. It’s the biggest of the eight that we’ve reviewed but it doesn’t feel like the biggest because the case actually tapers in which makes it feel slimmer than the Tough Armor. This is a two part case as the shiny silver plastic plate does come off but not easily. From our opinion, this case will not offer much in terms of bend protection.

The case fits well together and feels solid. It will wear better than other cases as the black nubs on the back of the case keeps the rigid plastic back off a flat surface. We were apprehensive about the “grippiness” of the case when we first got it, but there’s a lot of textures/bumps on the case that your finger/hands always have something to hold onto.[divider][/divider]

Protection – Protects your iPhone using Air!

For protection, the case is drop rated to Mil-Spec 810G, but Spigen doesn’t specify a drop height so we’ll just assume its four ft. It will do a good job protecting your iPhone from generally anything you would do with it on a normal day-to-day basis.

Now at the beginning of the review, we did say that this is Spigen’s tougher Tough Armor only because it offers port covers. Now we’re not a big fan of port covers as they are annoying to use. Often you have to bend it slightly to fit the cover into the holes at the bottom of the iPhone, but that’s not the case with the Tough Armor Tech. Spigen did an excellent job as the plugs fit comfortably into the ports without any hassle.

The case provides enough texture on both the front and back of the case that it won’t slip around easily so you won’t have to worry about your iPhone flying off your desk/table.

Functionality – Forward thinking sound?

In terms of accessing your iPhone, the edges on this case are a little better than the other Spigen cases as its a little deeper so thicker screen protectors won’t be a problem. We’ve got thicker Patchworks ITG on the iPhone in the video review and its still sitting under the edge of the case.

One of the biggest gripes we had about the Tough and Slim Armors had to do with the buttons as they were a little difficult to find so you had no idea if you were holding your iPhone upright in the dark. That’s not the case for the Tough Armor Tech. The buttons extend out slightly, so they’re easy to find and easy to use. The cutouts at the bottom of the case are large enough for third party cables.

Now, like the Thin Fit Hybrid, the speaker cutout faces forward which means it is going to be that much harder to cover up the speaker. Aaron noticed this feature the most when laying on his back playing iOS games. The sound quality and loudness didn’t change from our experience.

Again, for our Spigen Tough Armor Tech Review, we gave this slim iPhone 6 case a score of 4.5 Eh’s out of 5. Have questions? Please ask them on our Google+ page or our Facebook page or our About Us page.
