X-Doria Defense Edge Review – Apple Watch

X-Doria Defense Edge is one of our go to Apple Watch cases, but it comes with several flaws

The X-Doria Defense Edge is one the few Apple Watch accessories that we gravitate to because its looks. Other product tends to bulk up the Apple Watch whereas the Defense Edge adds to the entire design of the Apple Watch. It’s most likely due to the fusion of metal and plastic that sets this Apple Watch case apart.

We have a couple of issues with the build quality of the product that nobody should ignore. For our X-Doria Defense Edge Review, we’ve given it a score of 3.5 Eh’s out of 5. This product scores lower than some of the Spigen Apple Watch accessories and the Speck CandyShell Fit. Looking for other Apple Watch accessories? Check this page out!

Design – Metal fused with TPU? Our favorite kind of Apple product

We’re big fans of products that fuse metal and TPU together. Cases like the K11 Bumper for the iPhone is an example of such product, and the X-Doria Defense Edge is quite similar though there is a build quality issue that brings the quality of this product down.

One of the unique features of this Apple Watch case is the area around the Digital Crown as the case loops under which prevents the case from coming off accidently (if you wear the Apple Watch with the Digital Crown facing your hands).

However, the case covers up mic and speakers of the Apple Watch which isn’t great but from our usage, we rarely take calls on the Apple Watch so losing some of that audio quality was a big deal for us.

The edges on the metal portion of the case started off quite sharp but disappeared the more we used the Defense Edge.

Protection – Full coverage protection plus more!

The Defense Edge will protect the edges of your Apple Watch, but strikes that occur on the Apple Watch screen will still happen as the edges don’t extend far enough to stop them. However, the low edges result in excellent screen accessibility which is the complete opposite of the Speck CandyShell Fit.

Practicality – Makes your Apple Watch look a little different

Regarding practicality, the Defense Edge is an aesthetic accessory that offers very little protection that doesn’t make it terribly practical. The primary reason we gravitate to this product is because it looks different, not because of its protective qualities.
